HONOUR LOVE

Prologue: Nirupama a young journalist was blatantly murdered by her own family to uphold honor. Recently such incidents have been on an unprecedented rise. Hopefully justice will prevail. A look at historic and current realm of love in our country.

It is not just Nirupama but other young couples are butchered for undermining ‘rule of ancestors.’ As a civilized society regrettably our response has been lull to this blasphemy of honor killing. Our people seem to have an undercurrent opposition to concept of love. Has it not always been that way?

Is it not well known that Lord Krishna & Radha were madly in love. Since, Radha was an aunt to him in relation, No! No! it was for the blossomed love between them from society. What about Lord Ram? Wasn’t it love at first sight between him and Sita ? But Sita was forced to oblige her father’s promise. Lucky her, she finally married to Ram. Even mythological characters Lord Ram, Lord Krishna which are very foundation of our religion have been forced to sacrifice.

Legendary tales like Devdas where love is sacrificed soothes one’s anguish and hailed for doing so. One might say bollywood is laden with love. And we do seem to be aiding it. Unfortunately view didn’t rub-off with society to that degree.

Opposition for love from our society are innumerable. Few of it are religion, caste, age, language, status. Let us be a vibrant society in the new millennium, one which is broad-minded and doesn’t succumb to the evils it had created. Because, Love is a sacred feeling whose divinity, purity remained intact and undeterred even after vehement hostility over ages.
